The Kelly Clarkson Show always opens with “Kellyoke,” where she does a musical performance of fan-requested song covers. And she has since done hundreds. On May 8, 2024, she covered a fellow country singer’s track titled “Two Story House.” This was the second time she covered a song from the artist’s discography. In August 2023, she did “Heart Like a Truck.”
Fans have said it: Kelly Clarkson’s Kellyoke segment off her syndicated daytime Emmy-winning TV variety talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, is a killer. She always blows fans away with how flawlessly good she delivers her covers. And not once has she disappointed. Her recent rendition of Lainey Wilson’s “Two Story House” was no exception to that, and it had gotten fans clamoring for a collaboration between the two artists.
They did sing a duet before on the show of Wilson’s “Country’s Cool Again,” but fans are looking for an official one. And if they ever do, it’d definitely be a genre-changing one.
Kelly Clarkson’s “Two Story House” Rendition
The song, which Wilson co-wrote with Jon Henderson and Neal Coty, was released in 2021. It was a very personal song that told the story of how Wilson and her older sister were practically raised in the same house and in the same way, but they ended up pursuing two completely different paths in life. Her sister chose to have a family while she chose to live out her dreams in Music City.
And Kelly Clarkson understood that and delivered the stirring feelings that every listener felt from the top of their head down to every tip of their toes. Well, she always had that effect.
The song starts with an instrumental played by My Band Y’all before the singer enters, “Older doesn’t always make you taller / And those pictures on mama’s fridge prove that.” There was nothing fancy with the way she expressed the line, but you could feel that she brought every ounce of emotion into it. Then when she finally sang, “And how can two kids with the same raising / Wind up on such different pages / We all got our different callings / Yeah, I guess that’s why they call it,” it felt like getting transported back to our childhood and then doing a timelapse of growing up.
Finally, you see yourself in the present and realize how much has changed—and how much the people you grew up with have changed, too.
Then, she drove it home with a very heartfelt delivery of the line, “Two-story house, two-story house.”
