Bluegrass meets country rock – Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road, a bluegrass group from Raleigh, North Carolina, teamed up with The Kentucky Headhunters, a country / Southern rock band from Kentucky, for their upbeat single “Runnin’ Water” off their critically acclaimed Country Grass album under Pinecastle Records.

If you’re looking for a song to brighten your day and put you in a good mood, this is it. No doubts. The moment the first note hits, you’ll be tapping your foot and moving your body to the beat. And we recommend watching the music video with it to get the full experience!

“Like the Runnin’ Water”

The high-energy music video for “Runnin’ Water” was filmed at the legendary Practice House in Kentucky, and they didn’t have any fancy sets, props, or camera tricks. Their concept was just a simple jamming session, rocking out their respective instruments and having the time of their lives.

Lorraine Jordan sang as she played the mandolin, and she was joined by the Carolina Road, featuring Ben Green on bass vocals and banjo, Josh Goforth on baritone vocals and fiddle, and Tommy Long on lead vocals and guitar. Headhunters Doug Phelps and Richard Young lent their voices for an added splash of fun.

Jordan and the Carolina Road band’s distinct head-turning sound, combined with the rambunctious style of the Kentucky Headhunters, gave this track that catchy vibe with a rich, refreshing feel. As one commenter said, “This blue grass music sends the soul flying and singing and shouting. Glad I have found it.”

According to Jordan, she knew they differed from anything in the genre the first time she heard the Headhunters. The bluegrass roots coming from Kentucky were something she expected, but she saw their versatility with their 1989 track “Walk Softly on This Heart of Mine” from their album Pickin’ on Nashville

It was one hell of a collaboration, and it deserves every ounce of appreciation. Listen to “Runnin’ Water” by Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road and The Kentucky Headhunters below. And if you enjoyed them, make sure to listen to the rest of the album.
