Country sensation Willie Nelson missed the opening weekend of the 2024 edition of his Outlaw Music Festival Tour in Alpharetta, Georgia, and Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina. The 91-year-old music legend felt ill and posted on his Instagram that he had been advised to rest for four days. Many fans wished Willie well and showed sympathy in the comment section. To lift up the crowd’s spirit, fortunately, Lukas Nelson stepped up on the stage to perform his father’s 1982 classic “Always on My Mind.”
Lukas delivered the song with an emotional depth that made fans tearful that night. On a TikTok video shared by @spaseycasey, viewers shared their thoughts on how much Lukas sounded like his dad. The comment section was filled with praise from fans where Kevin Willms commented, “Holy cow. He’s incredible!! The apple didn’t even fall!!”

Another user said, “Watching this video is like watching Willie as a young man again! Lukas has some impressive shoes to fill, and he does them exceptionally well. I’m a big fan of Willie, and now I’ve become a big fan of Lukas, too! Carrying on a family legacy, especially in music, where his father excels, is a significant accomplishment and responsibility. It’s always inspiring to see talent and passion passed down through generations. Lukas has a bright future ahead of him.”
Lukas also made another performance of one of Willie’s enduring ballads, “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground,” on June 21. His vibrato and powerful voice resemble so much of his father that the fans can’t help but give him compliments. Needless to say, Lukas has his own charm and color, which made him a household name in the country music industry. One fan even teased, “Lucas, I think you sound better than your dad, and that’s saying a lot.”
