After a series of teasers, Zach Bryan promised his fans that if the Philadelphia Eagles (his favorite NFL team) would defeat the New York Giants during the playoffs, he would give “Dawns” an official release. Well, that did happen, and the massive Eagles fan stayed true to his words.

On January 27, 2023, Bryan finally released the fan-favorite song featuring fellow singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers.

As expected, the haunting duet was immediately a hit, reaching No. 11 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart while peaking at No. 4 on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. The song even entered the top 50 of the charts in New Zealand, Ireland, and Canada.

It was in November 2022 when Bryan began teasing fans with “Dawns” and again on Christmas Eve when a studio version of the song (featuring Maggie Rogers) was made available briefly. Since then, fans have been begging the country star for it to be fully released on all streaming platforms.

Meaning Behind The Song

Written by Zach Bryan and Maggie Rogers, “Dawns” tells the story of a love that has come to a heartbreaking end. It finds Bryan and Rogers angry, sad, and grieving the loss of a love they once believed in. They feel sorry for the countless “dawns” they spent on romance and long to return the days they gave to their lover.

Bryan and Rogers’ bold, emotional delivery of sadness and longing makes this song stand out, perfectly making the duet haunting. Making things even more intense are the poignant fiddles that help communicate feelings of desperation.

“Dawns” also briefly delves into Bryan’s grief following the death of his mother, DeAnn, who died from a heart attack in 2016.
