Georgia native Megan Moroney made a glorious entry on the country music scene when she released “Tennessee Orange” in December 2022 as her debut single and the lead track off her first-ever studio album, Lucky

In fact, the catchy ballad gained some serious traction way before its release and when Moroney was still an unsigned artist. It was so popular on different social media platforms that it entered the Billboard Hot 100 in October 2022, where it peaked at No. 30. Before the year ended, the song helped Moroney land a recording contract.

“Tennessee Orange” also reached No. 10 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart while ranking No. 4 on Billboard Country Airplay. It also entered the country chart in Canada, where it climbed to No. 3.

Meaning Behind The Song

Written by Megan Moroney alongside Paul Jenkins, David Fanning, and Ben Williams, “Tennessee Orange” tells a sweet story about a Georgia girl calling her mom to tell her that she has fallen for a boy from East Tennessee.

Even though she grew up with a family of die-hard Georgia Bulldogs, she starts wearing orange because her special someone roots for their arch-rival, the Tennessee Volunteers – and apparently, that’s their school’s signature color.

Did you know rumors say that Moroney (who graduated from the University of Georgia) pulled from real-life experience to write the relatable lyrics?

Fans have been speculating that the blue-eyed mystery man in the song is none other than country star Morgan Wallen, who is from Tennessee and has been noticed interacting with her on social media.

Moroney, however, intends to keep her lips tight as to who the blue-eyed heartthrob is.
