Topping the Billboard charts with hit singles like “Can’t Even Get the Blues,” “I’m a Survivor,” and “I Don’t Wanna Be a One Night Stand,” Reba McEntire invites Carrie Underwood to the stage to sing her prominent song “Does He Love You” at the Grand Ole Opry on September 22, 2017. This is to celebrate McEntire’s 40th Opry debut anniversary and her humble beginnings with her self-titled debut album released on August 15, 1977.

Written by Sandy Knox and Billy Stritch, the song was originally sung by Reba McEntire with Linda Davis as the first track to McEntire’s Greatest Hits Volume 2 compilation album in 1993.

Dynamic Duo: Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood’s Captivating Duet

With the new vocal combo, country powerhouse McEntire started charmingly singing the first verse of “Does He Love You” as the crowd cheered for Carrie Underwood’s appearance on stage to sing the second verse. The duo sang the chorus with great power and control, displaying their strong presence as a vocal duet on stage.

It’s a spectacle that exhibited McEntire’s irresistible charisma and good stage presence that will draw you in as she delivers the song with passion, while Underwood’s vocal mastery conveyed the lyrics magnificently. You can see how McEntire’s eyes proudly lit up as Underwood sang her verses, proving that such a performance is a remarkable moment for both singers.

“Does He Love You” is a story between two narrators — a wife and a mistress — fighting over one unfaithful man. The single poses a question of who he loves better than the other, depicting the painful reality of being involved in an infidelity. Its bridge entails that the singer is trying to control her temper before lashing out because she might lose everything because of her anger.

McEntire’s 40th Opry Debut Anniversary

Aside from Underwood, Dolly Parton and Vince Gill showed up that night to honor McEntire’s Opry reputation.

After the performance, Underwood posted photos of the event on her Instagram, saying, “How is this my life?” The American Idol Season 4 singer couldn’t hide her excitement and added, “I got to be part of this crew celebrating @reba ‘s 40th anniversary of her first @opry appearance! Three legends…and me!!! So many dreams came true tonight! #OnlyAtTheOpry.

Four years later, McEntire released a music video on October 10, 2021, featuring country icon, Parton, performing an unforgettable collaboration of this legendary song.
