Scotty McCreery’s Rendition of “Your Man” That Wowed The American Idol Judges

Once upon a time, country music superstar Scotty McCreery was only a sixteen-year-old guy from Garner, North Carolina, with huge Nashville dreams. And for his first stop on his journey to Nashville? Hollywood! McCreery nailed his audition on American Idol in 2011.

With a pocketful of charm in his baggy jeans, Scotty McCreery quickly wowed the judges who could hardly believe a boy of his age could possess such deep southern vocals. He instantly won Idol judge Jennifer Lopez telling him, “I hope you can sing!”

McCreery proceeded with Josh Turner’s “Your Man,” and his performance earned him a unanimous yes from the three judges – and of course, a golden ticket to Hollywood. Like a proper southern gentleman, McCreery shook the judges’ hands and stepped off as Lopez fairly predicted that he’s on his way to the big time saying, “We discovered him…He’ll be legendary.”

Well, the teenage McCreery went on winning the coveted title of American Idol.

Scotty McCreery Has Chosen The Right Song

Written by Chris Stapleton, Chris DuBois, and Jace Everett, “Your Man” was released in 2005 as the lead-off single and title track from Josh Turner‘s album of the same name. It became Turner’s first No. 1 hit on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs charts in early 2006. The song was certified Gold in 2006 by the RIAA, and Platinum in 2012. It has sold over a million copies in the United States.

Not only that, but the songwriters of “Your Man” also won awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), and Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI).

“Baby, lock the doors and turn the lights down low. Put some music on that’s soft and slow. Baby, we ain’t got no place to go. I hope you understand. I’ve been thinking ’bout this all day long. Never felt a feeling quite this strong. I can’t believe how much it turns me on. Just to be your man,” the song goes.

Indeed, Scotty McCreery has chosen the perfect song for his audition.

One of the highlights of his American Idol journey happened when he became one of the final three remaining contestants of the show’s tenth season. Part of being a finalist came with a hometown visit. During these visits, the finalists would perform in a concert for the community that gave them a great start.

During Scotty McCreery’s hometown concert in Garner, North Carolina, a very special guest made an appearance, and it totally surprised the singer. Country star Josh Turner stunned McCreery in front of more than 30,000 of his hometown fans as he was singing “Your Man.”

“I think he was surprised,” Turner said of McCreery’s reaction. “He didn’t see me until we were almost face-to-face. I think I almost gave him a heart attack.”
