Everyone Can’t Help But Gush Over Kenny Rogers’ “She Believes in Me”

Ever since Kenny Rogers went solo in 1976, he has had countless hits on his hands – and one of the most memorable ones is the song “She Believes in Me.”

It was released in 1979 as the second single from Rogers’ album The Gambler. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Country charts and later became one of his biggest crossover hits. It peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart and No. 1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.

With A Strength To Carry On

Written by Steve Gibb, “She Believes in Me” tells the tale of a struggling songwriter who never stops persevering, thanks to the woman he loves who believes in him.

“And she believes in me, I’ll never know just what she sees in me. I told her someday if she was my girl, I could change the world. With my little songs, I was wrong. But she has faith in me, and so I go on trying faithfully. And who knows, maybe, on some special night, if my song is right. I will find a way, find a way,” the song goes.

Several artists have covered the song over the years, including Ronan Keating, punk rock band Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, and Belgian pop singer Will Tura. In 2011, American Idol’s judges chose this song for one of Scotty McCreery’s performances.

On March 20, 2020, Rogers sadly died in hospice while surrounded by his family members and friends. The singer died from natural causes.

One of the many artists who paid tribute to the music legend was Jake Owen. With a performance of “She Believes In Me,” he honored Rogers’ life and legacy. “This is for all of my Kenny Rogers fans out there like myself,” he started by saying.

“One of my favorite songs of all time,” Owen wrote in the caption. “Completely describes what it’s like being a musician. The late nights. The dreams. The woman standing beside you, believing in you. What we all need more than anything. I’m sad to know Kenny has passed on, but can only strive to leave a legacy the way he did in this world.”

Still, no one does it better than Kenny Rogers. Enjoy Rogers’ rare performance of “She Believes in Me” in the video below.
