These days, people usually recognize Taylor Sheridan as the man behind the hit TV show Yellowstone. That’s why many get surprised after learning the man is also behind some of Hollywood’s most beloved titles throughout the years. That’s right, Taylor Sheridan has done plenty of TV shows and movies that had a lasting impression on the film industry. 

A Brief Look at Taylor Sheridan’s Career 

Taylor Sheridan started his acting career in 1995. He starred in an episode of the popular Walker Texas Ranger. Some of his most notable acting roles throughout the years include roles in Sons of Anarchy and Veronica Mars. Currently, he plays Travis Wheatly, a horse trainer and friend of the Duttons in Yellowstone

While he began his career as an actor, Sheridan mostly works as a producer, creator, writer, and director nowadays. He got his big breakthrough with Yellowstone as a writer, director, and producer. The show’s success led to him signing a deal with Paramount+ to create more content for their streaming service up to 2028.

Let’s start our list by looking at the movies that Taylor Sheridan has written, created, directed, or produced in his career so far. 

Vile

Vile is the movie where Sheridan made his debut as a director. The horror film follows the story of ten kidnapped individuals who must find a way to escape a locked room within 22 hours. To win their freedom, these people must endure immense pain. 

Sicario

Sheridan first got credit for his writing skills with the film Sicario in 2015. The film follows the story of an FBI agent the government enlisted to topple the leader of a ruthless and powerful Mexican drug cartel. 

Sicario received much praise and got chosen to compete for the Palme d’Or during the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The film also garnered multiple nominations at the 88th Academy Awards, including Best Original Score, Best Sound Editing, and Best Cinematography.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado

Sheridan became the writer for Sicario’s 2018 sequel movie, Sicario: Day of the Soldado. The film focuses on the drug war that happens along the US-Mexico border. 

Wind River 

Wind River is a neo-Western murder mystery 2017 film that Sheridan wrote and directed. Its story is about an FBI agent and a US Fish and Wildlife Service tracker working together to crack a murder on the Wind River Indian Reservation. 

It’s another film that received high praise after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017. It was selected as a Top Ten Independent Film by the National Board of Review and won the Un Certain Regard for Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival. 

Sheridan said he wrote the film to raise awareness about the alarming number of indigenous women murdered and raped annually. 

Without Remorse 

Without Remorse is a 2021 film that Sheridan wrote alongside Will Staple. It’s an action thriller that follows the story of a Navy Seal seeking revenge on a Russian hitman that killed his unit members and pregnant wife. The film draws inspiration from the 1993 Tom Clancy novel of the same name. 

Hell or High Water 

Hell or High Water is a neo-Western action-thriller 2016 film that Sheridan wrote. Its story follows two brothers pursued by Texas Rangers after trying to save their ranch by committing bank robberies. 

The film premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016. In the same year, the American Film Institute selected the film as one of its ten “Movies of the Year.” It also received several nominations during the 89th Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actor, Best Film Editing, Best Picture, and Best Original Screenplay. 

Those Who Wish Me Dead 

Those Who Wish Me Dead is a 2021 film where Sheridan was the director, writer, and producer. It follows the story of a boy on the run after witnessing the murder of his father. After joining a survival expert, the two flee into the Montana wilderness. 

Taylor Sheridan TV Shows 

Now that the movies Taylor Sheridan got involved with are out of the way, let’s move on to TV Shows he has worked on in his career. 

Yellowstone 

For those that don’t know yet, Taylor Sheridan is the mastermind behind the hit show Yellowstone. He is the show’s writer, director, co-creator, and producer. It is, by far, the most popular work Sheridan has done. The show will even receive multiple spin-offs and prequels. 

Yellowstone is about the Dutton family, who owns the largest cattle ranch in Montana, the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. Throughout the show, the Duttons do whatever they can to keep every inch of their beloved ranch from falling into the hands of land developers. 

The show premiered in 2018 and released its fifth season in late 2022. 

1883

Sheridan’s 1883 is a 10-episode series that premiered in 2021 and is a prequel to his hit show Yellowstone. The show follows an earlier generation of the Dutton family as they flee from poverty in Tennessee, hoping to start a new chapter in their life. 

The Duttons join a European wagon train of immigrants in Texas and journey across the wild west. They eventually reach Montana, where they establish what will eventually become the iconic Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. 

The Last Cowboy

The Last Cowboy is a reality TV series that Sheridan created and produced. It’s about a group of cowboys competing for a lavish $1 million price at the coveted reining competition called “Run for a Million.” The show came out in 2019 and had two seasons. 

Mayor of Kingstown 

Another show that Sheridan is the writer, producer, creator, and director of is the Mayor of Kingstown. It premiered in 2021 and got renewed for a second season in February 2022. 

The Mayor of Kingstown follows the story of the McLusky family, power brokers that live in Kingstown, Michigan. Kingstown is a place where the only business that flourishes is the business of incarceration. As a result, when Mike McLusky becomes mayor, he does what’s necessary to achieve his desired results. 

Taylor Sheridan’s Upcoming TV Shows and Movies 

The success of Yellowstone has catapulted Sheridan’s career, and he is now one of the industry’s highly desired directors and actors. He is now working on many projects his fans can look forward to, and below are a few of them. 

1932

Sheridan’s 1932 is a sequel to 1883 and another prequel to his hit Yellowstone show. It will follow the story of the Dutton family during the prohibition era and the Great Depression. The show will also feature the grandparents and parents of John Dutton. 

1883:The Bass Reaves Story 

1883:The Bass Reaves Story will be a spin-off of Sheridan’s 1883. It will focus more on the story of Bass Reaves. Reaves is a legendary real-life lawman who served as the first black deputy of the US Marshals West of the Mississippi River. 

6666

Sheridan is also creating and producing a spin-off for the Yellowstone series called 6666. The show will follow the story of the famed Texas ranch, Four Sixes. It’s one of the biggest real-life ranches in America. 

Tulsa King

Sheridan is also the producer and creator of an upcoming crime drama called Tulsa King. It’s about a Mafia capo sent to Tulsa by his boss after just getting out of a 25-year prison sentence. Once in Tulsa, he attempts to establish a criminal organization, even if he knows nobody there.

Finestkind

The Finestkind is an upcoming crime drama thriller film where Sheridan is one of the producers. The film will revolve around two brothers who reunited as adults after being raised separately. Together, the brothers attempt to deal with a Boston Crime syndicate. 

Lioness 

Sheridan will produce and create Lioness, an upcoming series with Jill Wagner and Nicole Kidman. The show is based on real stories and follows two US agents that work in an undercover female operative program.
