Kicking off Colorado’s summertime on June 20—until the 23rd—is the annual Telluride Bluegrass Festival, which will be held at the Telluride Town Park in Telluride, Colorado. And it’s armed with a heavy set of bluegrass names, starting off with Grammy-winning musician Billy Strings, who will be opening the four-day fest with singer-songwriter and virtuoso mandolin player Chris Thile. News of Strings joining the line-up was definitely an unexpected but very welcomed addition.

Blues singer Charley Crockett will be leading the first day’s main stage, while the progressive acoustic/bluegrass band The Infamous Stringdusters will be taking over the second day. For the weekend party, they invited GRAMMY award-winning multi-instrumentalist and King of Newgrass Sam Bush and the band, as well as an equally iconic and eccentric literary Texas troubadour Lyle Lovett and His Large Band.

The festival, which has been around since 1973, has made its name in the music festival community. It’s established its reputation for its star-studded, larger-than-life artist roster. On its golden anniversary in the previous year, it had Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, The String Cheese Incident, Bela Fleck and The Fleckstones, and Emmylou Harris with Watchhouse. This year’s headliners, The Infamous Stringdusters and Sam Bush Band, also graced the stage then.

Festival Essentials & Insider Tips

Telluride Bluegrass Festival usually sells out fast, but you’re lucky. There are still seats left out of the 12,000 capacity of the venue per day!

Passes are available for single-day entry ($130) and four-day entry ($395). Children 12 and under are free with a paying adult. Take note that these are tickets to the festival only and don’t include camping. Additionally, each customer is restricted to a 16-ticket limit.

But if you’re planning to stay, camp, and enjoy the whole four days in the area, you can opt to purchase tickets bundled with camping. Unfortunately, as of writing, there’s only one package available – Mary E Ilium ($485) – out of the three packages (Town Park Camping and Warner Field Camping are both sold out already). It includes a four-day pass and a camping tent for one (1) person. Should you choose to bring a vehicle to the campground, you must secure a separate vehicle pass. The camp is located 7 miles west of the town of Telluride in the Ilium Valley, accessible by a free festival shuttle.
