When you hear the word ‘Country’, sometimes, it just doesn’t ring a bell anymore. Some would say that it’s a one-of-a-kind music genre while others think would think of the southern state populated by lovers of rodeo riding and football. But when you’re asked ‘What’s Your Country Song?’ you definitely have a list to tell. In Thomas Rhett’s case, he uses nostalgia and showcases it in his latest music video.
The Definition of “Country“
With TK McKanny once again lending him a hand, the music video of ‘What’s Your Country Song’ starts by going through various shots of cornfields, creeks, country home architectures, football, and families. For some people, these shots may just be an interpretation of what defines ‘country’ but in reality, these were representations of Rhett’s memories.
Just like a time machine, the single aims to send someone back to his best moments in life. Through the music video, the ACM Entertainer of the Year shared that he wanted everyone to be helped by the memories and feelings of nostalgia.
Career-wise, ‘What’s Your Country Song’ is going to be the lead single in his upcoming and still unannounced 5th studio-album with a promising outtake to become a chart-topper.
Thomas Rhett co-wrote it with Jesse Frasure, Ashley Gorley, and Parker Welling. It also references other nostalgic songs like Alabama’s ‘Dixieland Delight’, George Strait’s ‘All My Ex’s Live In Texas’, Garth Brooks’ ‘Friends In Low Places’, and his father’s ‘That Ain’t My Truck’.
When “Country” is in Our Bones
The song was actually written last year in Dallas, Texas. But for Thomas Rhett, the place isn’t really important. “Country” is in everyone’s bones when we think about that once-peaceful and tranquil life we had back in our hometown.
‘What’s Your Country Song’ is a singular-themed track. It just reminds us of the beauty of things that shaped our growing up years. These memories are treasures and are personal time machines to transport us back to the good times whenever we feel the need. Wouldn’t that be a better alternative than wishing to travel somewhere else?
