Country music power couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill floored fans when they released the duet “Speak To A Girl” in 2017. The song not only had listeners in tears but set an exceptional standard for men across the board.

It is the first single from the couple’s first joint album, The Rest of Our Life. And as everyone expected, it resonated well with fans, peaking at No. 6 on US Hot Country Songs charts and No. 19 on US Country Airplay charts.

A Powerful Song From A Power Couple

Written by Dave Gibson, Shy Carter, and Joe Spargur, “Speak To A Girl” addressed how a woman should be properly treated and respected.

“She don’t give a damn about your Benjamin Franklins. She wants Aretha. She don’t really care how you’re spending your money. It’s all how you treat her,” Hill kicks off the beautiful ballad with her voice ringing clearer and so much better than ever.

The main message about respecting women – whether it’s your mother, your girlfriend, or your wife – was then established even better in the chorus part. “That’s how you talk to a woman. That’s how you speak to a girl. That’s how you get with a lady who’s worth more than anything in your whole world,” it goes.

McGraw comes in for the second verse echoing the same sentiments, but this time it’s from a man’s point of view. The two then joined in harmony for the song’s climax, which almost brings us to tears each time we hear it.

The message of “Speak To A Girl” is especially poignant as it comes from a couple who has been together for so long. Hill and McGraw just recently celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary in October. In over two decades, the couple has worked together quite a bit, even winning Grammys for their duets “Let’s Make Love” and “Like We Never Loved At All.”

“Speak to a Girl” earned a CMA Awards nomination for the 2017 Musical Event of the Year. Though it did not manage to bring home the award, the outcome did not affect how McGraw and Hill felt about the special song.

“It’s one of our favorite songs that we’ve ever done,” McGraw said. “It’s just a really special, special song. I think it says so much. When songs can be timely and really move you and really have a message, then you know that you have something special. I think that this song really is a special song. It’s special for us, having three daughters—me being a husband and Faith being a mom of three daughters and growing up in a world of all women like I did, I think it’s just a really special song.”
