In 2002, Travis Tritt released yet another chart-topping masterpiece, a song titled “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde.” The song has an upbeat take on country music, making listeners feel cheery whenever they play it.

As part of Tritt’s album “Down the Road I Go,” “Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde” immediately climbed the charts, landing at no. 8 on Billboard’s US Hot Country Songs and no. 55 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts, making it one of Travis Tritt’s greatest hits

Some critics say that the song’s success has been brought about by its retro and intriguing vibe, which gives off this hypnotic appeal that attracts listeners’ attention. On top of that, the way the music video was edited was amazing because it gave it a very unique feel.

Of course, we can’t deny that Tritt’s voice did magic for the whole song. His husky yet soft way of singing the words of the lyrics is indeed something that would grab every listener’s attention, even if they are not a fan of country music at all.

So, if you want to know the meaning behind the song, scroll down as we got the answer for you!

Meaning Behind the Song

Written by Walt Aldridge and James LeBlanc, the song is simply about an unexpected love story of two people who don’t care about breaking the rules and being irresponsible just to have the best time of their lives.

The song describes a man unexpectedly meeting a woman when he takes a quick break at a Johnson City, Tennessee, truck stop. They suddenly become comfortable with each other, so when they leave town, the woman goes on to rob a convenience store while telling the man to drive away.

But since the man has now unexpectedly fallen in love with the woman, he decides to give her a hand on her crime. As a result, both of them were arrested for robbery while they were counting all the money they had stolen.

The song simply shows that sometimes, when you are madly in love with someone, you would do anything and everything for them, even if that someone is already doing something bad.
