Old Dominion bagged their consecutive five-peat Vocal Group of the Year award against Lady A, Little Big Town, Midland, and Zac Brown Band at the 2022 CMA Awards.
But instead of the usual thank you speech, lead singer Matthew Ramsey took the opportunity to pay homage to Jeff Cook. The guitarist and co-founder of Alabama died on Tuesday at his vacation home in Destin, Florida. He was 73.

Ramsey said, “We’ve lost a lot of legends. But no one would be in this category without Alabama. And we have lost Jeff Cook.” He also added that there was nothing like being in a band, and he couldn’t imagine losing any of the guys. And lastly, he reflected on the importance of the opportunity that they had and continue to have to do what they love doing.
It has been quite a year for Old Dominion band as they joined Kenny Chesney on his 2022 Here and Now Tour. And after their successful 2021 album Time, Tequila & Therapy, they’re gearing up for their upcoming tour, No Hard Feelings.
The 2022 CMA Awards night was broadcasted live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena with hosts Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning.
