Shania Twain definitely knows how to make an impressive comeback. On Friday (September 23), the legendary Grammy Award-winning artist released a new song called “Waking Up Dreaming” – along with its accompanying music video. And let’s just say it was worth the wait.

The dance-worthy track that’s totally ’80s-inspired marks Twain’s first solo release since 2017. It also serves as the first single from a forthcoming, yet-to-be-announced album – which Twain teased about being notably upbeat.

The country legend said that she had productive songwriting sessions during the pandemic, especially since making songs became her solace during isolation. “I can’t wait for this next chapter, and ‘Waking Up Dreaming’ is just the start,” Twain said.

A Blast From The Past

In the music video directed by Isaac Rentz, Shania Twain rocks a variety of colorful wigs, intricate makeup with larger-than-life lashes, and several outfit changes – including some fabulous pink sequined pants. She dances around some friends, delights in posing for photos, and ultimately performs.

“So let’s start waking up dreaming and dress up crazy like superstars,” she sings.

Meanwhile, Twain made some buzz about her decision to go topless on the song’s cover artwork. The 57-year-old country star is seen donning colorful boots, a cowboy hat, a white skirt, and apparently nothing else. Twain revealed that she styled that photograph herself, and it is her statement of being comfortable in her own skin.

Truly, Twain is not showing any signs of slowing down. In addition to her recent release, she has also announced that she’s now signed to Republic Nashville, which is a part of the world’s leading music company, Republic Records. So, it looks like we can look forward to more brand new Shania Twain songs in the future.

Anyway, you can listen to Twain’s latest tune, “Waking Up Dreaming,” in the video below. The country legend definitely must have had a lot of fun filming this ’80s daydream.
